Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country. Dress modestly when visiting mosques and rural areas
Use your right hand for eating and greeting. The left hand is considered unclean
Malaysian food is incredible but can be spicy. Ask for 'kurang pedas' (less spicy) if needed
English is widely spoken in cities and tourist areas. 'Terima kasih' (thank you) is always appreciated
Remove shoes when entering homes, mosques, and some shops and restaurants

Days 1 to 3: Kuala Lumpur

Days 4 to 5: Penang

Frequently Asked Questions
Malaysia is very safe for families and has excellent infrastructure. The country is modern, well-organized, and welcoming to children. We recommend private transfers between destinations for comfort and ease with little ones.
Avoid the east coast (Perhentian Islands) from November to February when islands close due to monsoon. The west coast is best avoided during October-November for heavy rain. Borneo is wettest November-February. We can help plan around the weather.
No vaccinations are legally required, but Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus are recommended. If visiting Borneo rainforest, consult your GP about malaria prophylaxis. We can advise on the safest areas for families.
Malaysian food is diverse and generally less spicy than Thai. You'll find mild noodle dishes, satay, roti, and familiar Western food in hotels. Indian roti canai and Chinese dim sum are kid favourites. Always ask for 'kurang pedas' (less spicy).
