Destination Guide
Overwater bungalows, coral reefs, warm Fijian smiles, and the most romantic sunsets on earth
Welcome to Fiji
Fiji is one of those destinations that exceeds expectations. Spread across more than 330 islands in the South Pacific, it offers powder-white beaches, vivid coral reefs, lush tropical rainforests, and a warmth of welcome that is unlike anywhere else in the world. The Fijian people are famously friendly. The phrase "Bula!" (hello) captures the spirit of the whole place.
For honeymooners, Fiji is simply magical. Overwater bungalows, private beaches, couples spa treatments, and sunsets that will take your breath away every single evening. But Fiji is equally brilliant for families. The calm lagoons are perfect for children, the resorts go out of their way to welcome kids, and the underwater world is endlessly fascinating for all ages. Whether you are celebrating new love or building lifelong family memories, Fiji delivers.
Why Fiji is Perfect for Honeymooners
Few places on earth match Fiji for honeymoon romance. The Yasawa and Mamanuca island groups offer some of the world's most stunning private-island resorts, where your days are spent on deserted beaches, snorkelling hand-in-hand over coral gardens, and watching the sun melt into the Pacific. Evenings bring candlelit dinners on the sand, couples' massages in open-air bures, and skies full of stars with no light pollution for miles.
Overwater Bungalows
Wake up above the lagoon and step directly into crystal-clear water from your private deck. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Spectacular Sunsets
Fiji sits in the South Pacific, giving you show-stopping sunsets every evening: pinks, oranges, and purples reflected in still water.
Couples' Spa & Wellness
World-class Fijian spa treatments using traditional oils and techniques, often in open-air bures nestled in tropical gardens.
Private Dining
Many resorts arrange private beach dinners, sunset cruises, and champagne breakfasts delivered to your bungalow deck.
Fiji for Families
Fiji is one of the best long-haul family destinations in the world. The sheltered lagoons are calm and safe for children to swim and snorkel, the Fijian people absolutely love children (kids are treated like royalty here), and the family resorts offer brilliant kids' clubs, cultural activities, and endless outdoor adventures. Older children will be fascinated by the coral reefs and marine life, while younger ones are perfectly happy on the beach with the warm, shallow water.

Best Time to Visit
Dry Season (Best)
May to October
The sweet spot for Fiji. Warm temperatures (24-28ยฐC), low humidity, minimal rainfall, and excellent visibility for snorkelling and diving. July and August are peak season but still wonderful. This is when honeymooners and families tend to visit for guaranteed sunshine.
Wet Season
November to April
Hotter and more humid (28-32ยฐC) with occasional heavy showers. Cyclone risk December to March. However, resorts are quieter and significantly cheaper. Rain often comes in short bursts with sun returning quickly. Avoid January and February if possible, but shoulder months (November, April) can offer great value.

Fiji Tips
Flight time is around 22-24 hours from the UK with a stopover (usually Sydney, Singapore, or Los Angeles). An overnight flight makes the journey manageable
Fiji uses the Fijian Dollar (FJD). Credit cards accepted at resorts but carry cash for villages and local markets
Use reef-safe sun cream to protect Fiji's extraordinary coral reefs and your skin in the strong Pacific sun
Island transfers are by seaplane or speedboat. Seaplane is a spectacular experience in itself and well worth it!
Dress modestly when visiting villages. Cover shoulders and knees out of respect. Locals appreciate the effort greatly.
Perfect 7 Day Itinerary
Days 1 and 2: Arrive and Recover
Arrive into Nadi and transfer to your resort. With the long flight behind you, spend the first couple of days simply unwinding. Float in the lagoon, enjoy a welcome dinner, and adjust to paradise time. Honeymooners: book your overwater bungalow check-in for day 2.
Day 3: Reef Adventure
Full day snorkelling or diving on the coral reef. Take a guided boat trip to the best spots and see turtles, reef sharks, and hundreds of species of tropical fish. Families: kids love the introductory snorkel sessions. Honeymooners: try a private sunset dive or couples snorkel cruise.
Day 4: Village and Culture
Visit a traditional Fijian village to experience the kava ceremony and see meke (traditional dancing). Learn about Fijian customs and enjoy a lovo feast (food cooked underground). One of the most genuine cultural experiences you will have anywhere in the world.
Day 5: Island Hopping
Take a day trip by boat to a nearby uninhabited island. Pack a picnic, explore the sandbar, and snorkel off a completely deserted beach. Honeymooners: many resorts offer private island picnics with champagne. Families: children love the adventure of a Robinson Crusoe island day.
Day 6: Adventure or Relax
Choose your own adventure. Surf the breaks at Cloudbreak (experienced surfers), zip-line through rainforest, hike to a waterfall, or simply stay at the resort and enjoy the spa. Honeymooners: indulge in a couples spa day. Families: hire kayaks and paddleboards for the afternoon.
Day 7: Final Beach Day and Farewell
Last morning soaking it all in. Collect shells, take final photos, enjoy one last fresh coconut on the beach. Afternoon checkout and transfer to Nadi for your evening flight. Come home with a tan, incredible memories, and a plan to come back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Fiji consistently tops lists of the world's best honeymoon destinations, and for good reason. The combination of overwater bungalows, private beaches, world-class spa facilities, incredible sunsets, and the warmth of Fijian hospitality creates something truly special. It is not just beautiful scenery. The whole atmosphere feels romantic. Many couples say it is the best trip of their lives.
Absolutely. The Mamanuca and Coral Coast resorts are particularly well set up for families with children of all ages. The lagoons are calm and shallow, water temperatures are warm year-round (around 27ยฐC), and the Fijian people adore children. Most family resorts have excellent kids' clubs, and activities like snorkelling, cultural visits, and kayaking are brilliant for older children. Young children from about 3 upwards tend to have a wonderful time.
Given the flight time (around 22 to 24 hours from the UK), we recommend a minimum of 10 nights to make the journey truly worthwhile. Two weeks is ideal: enough time to recover from the flight, explore different islands, and relax into the pace of Fiji. Many families combine Fiji with a stop in Singapore or Australia to break up the journey.
Mid-range resorts and packages exist, but Fiji's reputation is for luxury. The most memorable experiences (overwater bungalows, private island experiences, seaplane transfers) do come at a premium. However, the value at many all-inclusive or half-board resorts is excellent when you factor in meals, activities, and the sheer quality of the experience. We can find options across a range of budgets.
UK citizens do not need a visa for Fiji for stays up to 4 months. No mandatory vaccinations are required, though it is worth ensuring routine vaccines are up to date. Hepatitis A vaccination is often recommended. Always check the latest Foreign Office advice before you travel and speak to your GP or a travel clinic for personal health advice.
